Its official, the future of digital manual creasing is down to my Grandparents’ clothes mangle-
Graham Harris discusses CreaseStream’s future in the world of manual creasing, and in doing so looks to the past…
I remember back to the 1970’s with fond memories, as a very young child being looked after by my grandparents. On one occasion, following a lesson on how to beat carpets and rugs to rid them of dust, they took me down their garden and into the shed to see their clothes mangle. If my memory serves me well they had only just ceased using this archaic mechanism that disposed and separated moisture from their washed clothes, into a bucket below. My Grandad pulled the mangle onto his yard to show me how it worked and it caught my imagination. It was easy to use, did what it was meant to do, and was fun to operate. Maybe it wasn’t so much fun for my Grandparents generation when used on a daily basis, but you have to smile at the simplicity (by the way, the gentleman in the image above isn’t my Grandad, I found a photo that reminded me of him proudly demonstrating the functions of a mangle)
It really is hard to think what was going through my Grandad’s head back then, however I would hazard a guess that he would have thought about things such as not needing a warranty for spare parts or breakdown cover.
Indeed, sometimes the old methods of doing something 50, 60 or 70 odd years ago can be utilised again, even if they make people laugh. The idea I adopted to produce what I strongly feel is the future in entry level manual creasing was inspired by my Grandparents, the idea came to me in a strong vision based on my experience described above, so take it from me, it is all their fault.
I lose count of the amount of people that laugh when they see how we adopted the mangle method to treble the output speed of creased sheets above what exists in the manual creasing world, but I guess their smiles soon fade once they see the advantages. James, the person in this video admitted to first seeing our “mangle” creasing solution on our website and nearly being put off by laughing so much, play the video below to hear what he thinks now and to see if he smiles…
